Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step) won the 26.3 km individual time trial at the ŠkodaTour de Luxembourg. On the fourth stage, starting and finishing in Niederanven, the Briton took victory with a 28’’ margin over Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates XRG), who claimed the overall lead. Ben Healy (EF Education – Easypost) finished third, 58’’ behind.
In the general classification, McNulty now leads by 47’’ over Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) and 1’04’’ over Richard Carapaz (EF Education-Easypost).
Stage winner Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step): “I’m obviously really happy. It was a tough time trial. This has been a difficult season for me, and I’m grateful that my team, my friends and my family have continued to believe in me. I actually felt like I was slowing down on the second part of the course, but in the end that’s where I made the difference. On the first climb I didn’t find my rhythm, but afterwards I really pushed hard.”
Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates XRG): “It’s a bit disappointing to finish second. On the other hand, we now have the yellow jersey. It was a tough time trial. On the final stage we’ll need to focus on defending. I think the rivals will be aggressive, and the weather is likely to be bad too. But we have a strong team and we’ll give it everything.”
