The weekend of July 5 and 6, 2025 promises to be an exciting one filled with tradition and ambition. The TDL Organisation asbl, organizer of the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg, will present no fewer than three international races for juniors and beginners in the Grand Duchy.
These events offer young athletes the chance to compete at a high level and to develop the skills necessary for success at the top tiers of the sport. Many of today’s top professional riders began their journey in youth races such as the GP Général Patton, the GP de Luxembourg, and the Critérium Européen des Jeunes.
During the 26th Critérium Européen des Jeunes, the elite of the U17 category will battle it out over two demanding stages around Warken and Hosingen. Young riders will be eager to catch the eye of scouts from leading professional teams. Notably, Cian Uijtdebroeks (2019) and Marco Brenner (2018), two recent winners of the Critérium Européen des Jeunes, have since progressed to the WorldTour and ProTeam ranks. Uijtdebroeks now rides for Visma–Lease a Bike, while Brenner is part of Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
A total of 28 teams from six nations will be at the start. Belgium and the Netherlands are the best represented with nine teams each. Luxembourg will be represented by three teams: Cycling Team Atertdaul, SAF Zeisseng, and Team Lëtzebuerg.
The 75th GP Général Patton will take place on July 5 in Warken. The winner could well be among the stars of tomorrow: Remco Evenepoel (2018 / Soudal–Quick Step), Marc Hirschi (2015 / Tudor Pro Cycling), and Alexandr Vlasov (2014 / BORA–hansgrohe) all made their mark in this race. Since then, all three have claimed victories in some of the sport’s biggest WorldTour events.
29 teams from 12 nations will line up at the start. Once again, Belgium leads the field with 10 teams. Development squads from prestigious professional teams such as EF Education–ONTO, Soudal–Quick Step U19, and grenke–Auto Eder (development team of Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe) will also participate. Luxembourg will be represented by two teams of six riders each: the FSCL National Training Centre and UC Dippach.
The junior elite will return to action the day after the GP Patton for the fifth edition of the GP de Luxembourg, a relatively new race that has already become a springboard for emerging talents. Mathieu Kockelmann and Jarno Widar (Belgium), two riders who impressed in this event three years ago, are now racing with the Lotto–Dstny Development Team.
The public can look forward to top-level racing and the chance to witness the champions of tomorrow in action.
